John Dowell - Writer/Director

John had been a Bathtub Baritone for several years before following his love for Gilbert and Sullivan Operas into local Amateur Society shows.  There he was bitten by the roar of the greasepaint and smell of the crowd.  He joined MKAOS and enjoyed several years playing lead roles in Brigadoon, Half A Sixpence, Hello Dolly, Oklahoma and many others.  He also worked with Company MK playing more dramatic roles in Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Into The Woods, Assassins and Cabaret .

At the same time his enthusiasm and determination to make things happen took him into the world of directing.  First in his beloved G&S, then South Pacific, Bugsy Malone, A Funny thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, A Slice of Saturday Night and Oh What A Lovely War.

Throughout all of this he would watch the world of Pantomime, remembering the excitement he felt as a child, watching the theatre grow dark and all those fabulous colourful characters come to life.  He was eventually coaxed into this magical world and played Buttons in Cinderella for MKAOS in 2000.  More linkman parts followed before he became
the Dame in Dick Whittington, Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty.

John was also having greater involvement in the scripts, having directed the last three pantomimes.  Then came the approach from Kevin to form a double act as Dreams n Wishes.  Cinderella was the first Dreams n Wishes Production and the first where John completely wrote the script, song lyrics and co-wrote the original music, as well as
directing and performing.

As Dreams n Wishes continue, John's aims for Pantomime to remain the same - to
connect with the child in all of us, to build and inspire the best possible production values
and deliver Pantos the way they ought to be seen; good old fashioned story-telling
filled with romance and adventure.  And with Kevin on board as his Mr Make-It-Happen,
maybe tomorrow we'll take on the world!
